Pansol Choir: Who We Are

The importance of a name and its meaning can never be underestimated. It can influence how others view us and how we see ourselves. It is by which we are all recognized and remembered. What then does our name, PANSOL, mean?

PANSOL CHOIR derived its name from the name of the barangay or community where its founding members originated, the Brgy. Pansol of Quezon City. Incidentally, there is also a barangay in Calamba, Laguna with the same name, which is known for its hot springs from which the term most probably originated.

“Ang pangalang Pansol ay hinango sa isang sina-unang contraption o device na yari sa biyas ng kawayan o ano mang tubo na isinusuksok sa isang talampas o gilid ng burol upang daluyan ng tubig na nagbubuhat sa bukal.”

The Tagalog word “pansol” literally means “spring water system”, a device that allows spring water to flow from the source to its destination. Thus, the term can also refer to a “channel” that conveys something or through which something passes.

Interestingly, the word “pansol” can be divided into two: “PAN”, a word forming element from the Greek word, pan-, which means “all, every, whole, all-inclusive”, and “SOL”, from the Latin word solus, which means “one and only, unique, extraordinary”. “SOL” can also be an acronym that stands for “Sacrifice, Obedience and Love” through which Jesus was made “perfect” (Hebrews 5:8-9).

Given the above-mentioned etymologies and references and as a community/church-based choir and believers in Christ, the name PANSOL now holds a special and deeper meaning for all of us, its members. It is a reminder that: WE are ALL CHANNELS of GOD'S LOVE. Therefore, let us open ourselves to allow JESUS' PERFECTION flow through us into the lives of everyone we touch.

We are the Pansol Choir.

We sing Jesus’ PERFECTION.

Together, We Sing God’s Praise!

Simul Cantare Laudem Dei!
